#122 At Home With The Camden Slags
by The Camden Slags
Music to listen to the day after a night out; a playlist for the day light - beautiful arrangements, down tempo and partly bitter sweet songs.
Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!
Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow! That was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have Spotify! An online library with a wide range of artists and genres! And with the possibility to share it with your friends.
Strangelove (a creative advertising agency in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed Tape - a playlist in Spotify. A very simple idea with a really nice result!
You need Spotify to listen to the tapes.
Jason first started playing at friends post-club parties around Camden and North London, and was always the last one manning the stereo as the sun came up. Eventually invites to play club venues came - with one organiser making up names for all the DJs for the nights running order and posted on the wall was "10pm - The Camden Slag", and the name just sort of stuck. Further bookings followed and fellow Camdenite and friend Piers joined to double the record collection and pluralise the name. Together they honed their eclectic mix of Northern Soul, 60's & 70's junk shop pop, original disco, post disco and anything goes approach which they've been playing out for last six years.
