Background

Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!

Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow, that was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have online libraries packed full with a huge range of artists and genres.

Concept

Strangelove (a creative advertising agency based in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed-Tape; a very simple idea with a really nice result. Via Spotify or Deezer, we ask music artists, record labels, DJ's and all types of creative like-minded people to put together a unique and personal playlist. Sometimes it can be related to a specific theme / event / launch, or maybe the complete opposite of what one might expect from a certain 'character'.

Spotify / Deezer

You need either Spotify or Deezer to listen to the tapes.

Rats On Rafts

Rats on Rafts are from Rotterdam and their style has been compared to a mix of Post Punk and New Wave with elements of C86
and pre baggy by an excitable press. Comparisons to the Fire Engines, The Cure, The Chameleons and The Specials and have also been bandied about.

The band swear spiritual allegiance to the Rotterdam's New Wave, Pop and Punk scenes with one proviso, the weirder the better.

Rats have been together for a few years and, after boring themselves into finally getting good, they embarked on a phase which
is slowly seeing them recognized as something a bit special by their own countrymen.

In 2008 Rats released their first EP, "So Long And Thanks For All The Fish". The record received good (if somewhat bemused) reviews
and saw them play on 3voor 12's "Hollandse Nieuwe" nights and the "Local Heroes" event, hosted by Dutch magazine Live XS.
Their other record, a single, "The Moneyman" (a cover of a song by Rotterdam heroes KIEM) was released in September 2010.
The record was brought out on their own label and was produced by KIEM frontman, Huub Kentie.

It's very simple, a compilation of music we enjoy at this moment and have enjoyed for years, you can play it in one go and it fits together as a set and at the same time it doesn't at all. A nice C12 compilation.

32 Some more casual sex

by The Sultans

Go back to the early nineties: confused teenagers completely lost track, jumping on the humorous punk songs.

56 WTF did they do to my music?!

by MOONDOG

The tape draws from original Moondog recordings and also remixes/covers/samples used by other artists. The title means Moondog may not have approved of all of them.

143 Inspiration

by Bertolf

"Here is some of the music I listened to a lot while writing and recording my third album "Bertolf". The songs have been inspirational on a lot of levels: songwriting, singing, form, arrangement and production. "

226 The Installation

by Unruly Gallery

When installing shows at Unruly Gallery, we usually have a few cold Warsteiners, have a laugh and discuss art – including music. For this Mixed-Tape list I selected a few songs we discussed and played over the last year; a somewhat eclectic mix, including chansons, rock classics, pop and even contemporary hip hop.

85 Punta del Este

My pick for a hot but dark summer night on a perfect beach. These songs should be accompanied with the sound of crashing waves and lots of good wine.

67 Cock Rock Love Songs

by Elle Bandita

Over the top poppy, slick instant hits. Kinda sums up the 80's. Other than that there's some nice grungy tracks as well as some feminist cock rock. <3 Elle
