Background

Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!

Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow, that was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have online libraries packed full with a huge range of artists and genres.

Concept

Strangelove (a creative advertising agency based in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed-Tape; a very simple idea with a really nice result. Via Spotify or Deezer, we ask music artists, record labels, DJ's and all types of creative like-minded people to put together a unique and personal playlist. Sometimes it can be related to a specific theme / event / launch, or maybe the complete opposite of what one might expect from a certain 'character'.

Spotify / Deezer

You need either Spotify or Deezer to listen to the tapes.

Sonurber

Sonurber is the 27-years young Guus Berendsen. Working around the clock, music became his peace of mind. He started out as a DJ, but passionately switched to producing after watching Berlin Calling by Paul Kalkbrenner. His productions are best compared to Paul’s deep techno and the melodic and atmospheric sound of Pantha du Prince. He brings danceable beats, solid bass lines and hypnotic melodies to a climax that always satisfies.

Here are some tracks that inspire me in what I do, did and will do. Please enjoy the grooves of Nicolas Jaar, the beauty of techno in Dockyard by Paul Kalkbrenner, and lose yourself in The Passing of Time by my absolute favourite: The Orb.

169 Somewhere

by The Bony King of Nowhere

The third album, simply called "The Bony King of Nowhere", is out now. Each song is pure beauty, without big gestures, harmony or drums. It's a timeless folk record, rooted in the tradition of the great Leonard Cohen and the inevitable Bob Dylan.

157 The joy of melancholy

by De Meisjes

Susan Sontag once wrote: 'Depression is melancholy minus its charms.' Even sad songs must contain an element of joy: no matter how blue, by their very essence they'll remain a celebration of what it means to be alive.
