Background

Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!

Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow, that was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have online libraries packed full with a huge range of artists and genres.

Concept

Strangelove (a creative advertising agency based in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed-Tape; a very simple idea with a really nice result. Via Spotify or Deezer, we ask music artists, record labels, DJ's and all types of creative like-minded people to put together a unique and personal playlist. Sometimes it can be related to a specific theme / event / launch, or maybe the complete opposite of what one might expect from a certain 'character'.

Spotify / Deezer

You need either Spotify or Deezer to listen to the tapes.

Homework

If one wonders what the distinct Homework sound is then much is to be found in their past aesthetic representation. When these two youngsters started messing around with turntables, back in 2007, they used to perform in immaculate white shirts and raven black ties. And even though longtime Dutch partners in musical crime Tom Waist and Zip Stolk have left this iconography behind, they still emanate an sense of clear-headed playfulness. Behind this swagger lies a wide-raging love for contemporary dance music that always comes in handy in the ever changing spheres of house music. Especially now that the genre is turning to ever stranger and/or vintage sources of inspiration. Since it all began in Amsterdam-based record store Concerto they've been looking for an innovative advance to music, sifting their way through trends and genres with the greatest of ease, always with a keen sense of class, style, aptitude and madness.

Tom Waist, known for his work as part of globe-trotting production/dj duo Homework (Made To Play/Exploited), provides us with an 'all over the place' selection of tunes ("I hate the word: eclectic!"); from lullabies he used to listen to when he was 12 years old to the legendary house cuts that inspire him nowadays.

We love listening to loud and/or danceable music whilst on tour or working at home. But it’s also great to have a few songs you can really listen to when you’re completely alone or relaxed. A good mix of everything that has the right heart.
