11 Drank Liederen (en eentje over drugs)
by Lars Kelpin
Songs about booze and 1 about drugs...
Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!
Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow, that was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have online libraries packed full with a huge range of artists and genres.
Strangelove (a creative advertising agency based in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed-Tape; a very simple idea with a really nice result. Via Spotify or Deezer, we ask music artists, record labels, DJ's and all types of creative like-minded people to put together a unique and personal playlist. Sometimes it can be related to a specific theme / event / launch, or maybe the complete opposite of what one might expect from a certain 'character'.
In 1994 a small but vibrant Antwerp music scene meant that most alternative bands were incestuous, liquid beings; with each musician being as likely to be in five bands as one, but a mutual love of all things alternative and underground, melded five talented musicians and performers into dEUS.
Since then the line-up has changed several times. At present dEUS consists of Tom Barman, Klaas Janzoons, Stéphane Misseghers, Mauro Pawlowksi and Alan Gevaert.
Something more about Mauro Pawlowski who created this mixed-tape:
Mauro Antonio Pawlowski (born 24 April 1971) is one of the key figures in the Belgian contemporary music scene. He was born in Koersel and is of Italian and Polish descent.
He started his career as frontman of Evil Superstars in 1992. This group was, along with Deus, part of the first wave of the Belgian music boom in the 90's. He split the band in 1998 and has since then played in numerous bands, including Mitsoobishy Jacson, Kiss my Jazz, Monguito and Shadowgraphic City. He is currently a member of Deus, The Love Substitutes, Othin Spake, Club Moral, Archetypes of the Multisabanas and I Hate Camera. Beside these projects, Mauro has released solo work under various aliasses:
- Mauro A. Pawlowski, Somnabula, while fronting a new group called Mauro Pawlowski & the Grooms.
- Mauro Pawlowski performing with Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus (Vienna 2010)
In 2008 he toured with the Dutch poet/writer Ramsey Nasr. In 2009 he tours as a guitar player with Contemporary dance group Ultima Vez of Wim Vandekeybus.

'I'm on tour with my fellow musicians. Here's some songs I currently listen to on the road and in our dressing rooms."
A small selection of tunes for the road selected by Efdé. These tracks will want you to drive on and on and on. And they will make your drive from a dull and boring experience into something fun. Some of the tracks might even get you home a lot quicker. Enjoy!
So that's 2012 all done and dusted, what a blast. To try and put a marker in time we've created a mixed tape containing a selection of our favorite tunes of 2012. 2012 has been a good year for Basserk and our artists, our releases have caused quite a stir this year. We still managed to find time to participate in many brain cell killing activities, and during that process these tunes managed to stick to us.
To get a little insight into our world of music and what inspires us, we’ve put together a playlist with some of our all-time favourite songs. We hope you like it!
“Take a seat, close your eyes and enjoy these pure and sometimes very painful songs. Music is love and love is music”

A journey into the influences of School is Cool. Designed to keep you on the edge of your seat, to be jarring, surprising and wide in it's span, in short: to keep you listening. 500 years of music encompassing pretty much everything. From strangely morbid native folk to the greatest melody in baroque history; from Kate Bush's idosyncratic style to a string quartet playing Arcade Fire's wildest track; from Black Francis' furious belting to Vivaldi's furioso; from a corny Bonnie Raitt ballad to gritty Skip James. Music is bigger than life. -Johannes Genard, singer of School iIs Cool -
