34 Unmixed Tape

Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!
Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow, that was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have online libraries packed full with a huge range of artists and genres.
Strangelove (a creative advertising agency based in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed-Tape; a very simple idea with a really nice result. Via Spotify or Deezer, we ask music artists, record labels, DJ's and all types of creative like-minded people to put together a unique and personal playlist. Sometimes it can be related to a specific theme / event / launch, or maybe the complete opposite of what one might expect from a certain 'character'.
In 1994 a small but vibrant Antwerp music scene meant that most alternative bands were incestuous, liquid beings; with each musician being as likely to be in five bands as one, but a mutual love of all things alternative and underground, melded five talented musicians and performers into dEUS.
Since then the line-up has changed several times. At present dEUS consists of Tom Barman, Klaas Janzoons, Stéphane Misseghers, Mauro Pawlowksi and Alan Gevaert.
Something more about Mauro Pawlowski who created this mixed-tape:
Mauro Antonio Pawlowski (born 24 April 1971) is one of the key figures in the Belgian contemporary music scene. He was born in Koersel and is of Italian and Polish descent.
He started his career as frontman of Evil Superstars in 1992. This group was, along with Deus, part of the first wave of the Belgian music boom in the 90's. He split the band in 1998 and has since then played in numerous bands, including Mitsoobishy Jacson, Kiss my Jazz, Monguito and Shadowgraphic City. He is currently a member of Deus, The Love Substitutes, Othin Spake, Club Moral, Archetypes of the Multisabanas and I Hate Camera. Beside these projects, Mauro has released solo work under various aliasses:
- Mauro A. Pawlowski, Somnabula, while fronting a new group called Mauro Pawlowski & the Grooms.
- Mauro Pawlowski performing with Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus (Vienna 2010)
In 2008 he toured with the Dutch poet/writer Ramsey Nasr. In 2009 he tours as a guitar player with Contemporary dance group Ultima Vez of Wim Vandekeybus.

We put together this special tape to give you a little insight as to what we listen to and what inspires us on a day-to-day basis.
“Take a seat, close your eyes and enjoy these pure and sometimes very painful songs. Music is love and love is music”
This is the kind of playlist we'd have playing as we travel between shows across the land...
Drink, fight, fuck and I don't care about you, the favorite tunes of these ladies are not for fainthearted...

A small warm-up for 'het Appelsap' feast on July the 31st. We selected tracks of a large part of the lineup of the festival. Get on your dancing shoes!
Growing up in the great '80s creating mix tapes, for yourself or other people, was something special. Anyway I hope you like my selection. I’ve created it especially for you.
We've come together to select tracks that directly influenced our band sound. It didn't take us long to agree on this list, we're - luckily - on the same page. We'll take you back to sweet soul, super jazz and groovin' boogaloo. Enjoy!
