Without music there's no words...
Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!
Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow, that was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have online libraries packed full with a huge range of artists and genres.
Strangelove (a creative advertising agency based in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed-Tape; a very simple idea with a really nice result. Via Spotify or Deezer, we ask music artists, record labels, DJ's and all types of creative like-minded people to put together a unique and personal playlist. Sometimes it can be related to a specific theme / event / launch, or maybe the complete opposite of what one might expect from a certain 'character'.
In 1994 a small but vibrant Antwerp music scene meant that most alternative bands were incestuous, liquid beings; with each musician being as likely to be in five bands as one, but a mutual love of all things alternative and underground, melded five talented musicians and performers into dEUS.
Since then the line-up has changed several times. At present dEUS consists of Tom Barman, Klaas Janzoons, Stéphane Misseghers, Mauro Pawlowksi and Alan Gevaert.
Something more about Mauro Pawlowski who created this mixed-tape:
Mauro Antonio Pawlowski (born 24 April 1971) is one of the key figures in the Belgian contemporary music scene. He was born in Koersel and is of Italian and Polish descent.
He started his career as frontman of Evil Superstars in 1992. This group was, along with Deus, part of the first wave of the Belgian music boom in the 90's. He split the band in 1998 and has since then played in numerous bands, including Mitsoobishy Jacson, Kiss my Jazz, Monguito and Shadowgraphic City. He is currently a member of Deus, The Love Substitutes, Othin Spake, Club Moral, Archetypes of the Multisabanas and I Hate Camera. Beside these projects, Mauro has released solo work under various aliasses:
- Mauro A. Pawlowski, Somnabula, while fronting a new group called Mauro Pawlowski & the Grooms.
- Mauro Pawlowski performing with Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus (Vienna 2010)
In 2008 he toured with the Dutch poet/writer Ramsey Nasr. In 2009 he tours as a guitar player with Contemporary dance group Ultima Vez of Wim Vandekeybus.

Johanna Maria... Who the f*ck is Johanna Maria?
Big thoughts come in small songs and just because Kuijken is holding back, the music is full of tension. 'Nowhere or Tammensaari' is their latest album and the next step in a career that slowly but steadily unfolds. I am Oak makes albums to listen to, not just a collection of singles with some fillers, it's a listening experience. In shows it's the same thing. At that time there is also a big chance that the music takes you away, wherever your dreams want to take you. This is Thijs' selection of music to take you on a journey.
John Coffey shows are known for their madness and the partying going on during the show. When we leave the stage, all pumped up and excited, the energy keeps on going. By the time we enter the bus for a long drive (usually with a couple of beers we begged for at the venue), one lucky bastard gets to be the DJ. The recipe is always the same: HITS. iPods are handed to the DJ from all sides as we loudly sing along to the jingles we all love so much. To share that feeling with you, we collected a handful of those hits. Close your eyes, enter the tourbus, and enjoy THE JOHN COFFEY TOURBUS EXPERIENCE.
Spring is afoot, and the fresh excitement it brings is buzzing around at Salon HQ. As devout accelerators, we had no choice but to share that magic promise of summer with a playlist of tunes that capture the moment. Singer-songwriters, beachpop and breezy beats, we got all the ingredients here to cook up sumfin' happy-good for your hungry ears.
These tunes are a mix of songs we both love. They bring back good memories. Gigs at festivals or clubs where the crowd lifts you up, party's abroad, but also us having fun and sing along while driving the car on to a next gig. Enjoy
