Background

Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!

Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow, that was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have online libraries packed full with a huge range of artists and genres.

Concept

Strangelove (a creative advertising agency based in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed-Tape; a very simple idea with a really nice result. Via Spotify or Deezer, we ask music artists, record labels, DJ's and all types of creative like-minded people to put together a unique and personal playlist. Sometimes it can be related to a specific theme / event / launch, or maybe the complete opposite of what one might expect from a certain 'character'.

Spotify / Deezer

You need either Spotify or Deezer to listen to the tapes.

219 Twelve Spelled Out Songs

by Waiting For Lenny

The first track on our EP is called B.E.A.T. After a long writing process the song really came together when we simply decided spell out the first word of the verse. From that moment on our little obsession with finding the best spelled out songs began. And so we didn’t really have to think long about a theme when you guys asked us to make a M.I.X.T.A.P.E. Enjoy!

226 The Installation

by Unruly Gallery

When installing shows at Unruly Gallery, we usually have a few cold Warsteiners, have a laugh and discuss art – including music. For this Mixed-Tape list I selected a few songs we discussed and played over the last year; a somewhat eclectic mix, including chansons, rock classics, pop and even contemporary hip hop.

144 Spring is here

by Yorick van Norden

Yorick (frontman of The Hype) was so flattered by the great reception his first mixtape received, that he was challenged to create a follow-up, this time trying to make the perfect soundtrack to accompany the first rays of spring.

231 Town of Pants of Saints

by Town of Saints

We love listening to loud and/or danceable music whilst on tour or working at home. But it’s also great to have a few songs you can really listen to when you’re completely alone or relaxed. A good mix of everything that has the right heart.

211 Music for Photographers

by I Shot The Band

We always love to hear some music with our photography and vice versa. Photography and its intention to capture important moments and people in our lives are quite similar to composing songs. In a song the emotion of the one making the music is traveling to the listener. Traced, diffused or with empathy.
